Transnational Modern Languages: A Handbook, edited by Jennifer Burns and Derek Duncan

TML Handbook cover

6 June 2022

This book is the anchor of the Transnational Modern Languages series, which Bristol SML staff played a vital role in shaping.

It aims to outline a new approach to modern languages for students, one based on transnational culture inquiry into languages, cultures, and their interactions, rather than the study of discrete national traditions. The volume is available as open access and can be downloaded as a PDF here. Each chapter explores a key concept in our field (‘'Borders', 'Cities', 'Digital', etc.) and colleagues may find it useful to assign these to students when approaching a new topic.

Two Bristol authors are included in the line-up: Connor Doak (‘Conflict’) and Lucas Nunes Vieira (‘Translation).
