Student Wellbeing

Doing a PhD is often stressful, and thus the QE-CDT is committed to helping its students succeed while maintaining their mental and physical health. As such, CDT staff keeps an open communication channel with the students, explicitly and routinely soliciting feedback from its students during staff-student lunches for first-year students, and students from all active cohorts (i.e. cohorts with students yet to completely their PhDs) are regularly invited to feedback meetings where issues can be raised, discussed, and acted upon. In addition, we try to promote a healthy work-life balance that allows students the time to eat right, exercise, and get enough sleep, even during the stressful periods.

Students have access to the Student Health Services, offering a full NHS GP service located not far from the NSQI, physics, mathematics, and engineering buildings.

We are committed to ensuring the success of our disabled students; more information on University of Bristol disability services can be found here.

Students who struggle during exam periods are encouraged to begin the extenuating circumstances process to ensure that we can make the necessary adjustments to provide the best possible support. In addition, the University of Bristol offers support for students who are struggling with mental health issues; find appropriate resources here.
