Mentoring & Development opportunities

The following list of communities, both within and outside of Bristol, is not intended to be exhaustive, but it provides a starting point for finding various communities, both in general and in the various fields covered by quantum technologies (i.e., physics, mathematics, and engineering). Mentorship/inclusion opportunities and spaces

The UoB EDI choir can be found here.

The CHAOS physics student society has networks for BME folks, women, and LGBT+ folks.

There is also a society for electrical engineers at Bristol.

Engineering Includes Me is an initiative in the School of Engineering that aims to address EDI concerns in engineering.

Information for women and non-binary folks in mathematics can be found here.

The Institute of Physics has a women in physics group that can be found here.

Likewise, you can check out the Association for Black and Minority Engineers.

Trans and non-binary students can join the Trans Students’ Network via the UoB student union.

International students can join the International student network.

The UoB student union also has a number of groups for students with ties to different areas, including a society for African and Caribbean students, a society for Arabic students, as well as societies for students from India, Pakistan, and China, among many others. There is also a Black engineers society. You can find information on the University of Bristol Islamic society here, the Jewish society here, and a Christian society here. Students of all faiths have access to the Multifaith Chaplaincy, which hosts weekly events and houses a quiet room for meditation, prayer, and/or reflection that all students can access.
