Quantum Engineering CDT appoint new Director, Dr Jorge Barreto

1 July 2021

Congratulations to Dr Jorge Barreto, who has been appointed as the new Quantum Engineering CDT Director

Following the departure of previous CDT Director Dr Pete Turner, who left Bristol for a role as CEO of the Sydney Quantum Academy, Dr Jorge Barreto has been appointed as the new Director.

Speaking about his new role and the CDT, Jorge said "The QECDT has done many things right, and I am proud of the community we have built. I look forward to building upon our positive results and expanding our networks beyond Bristol. I will aim to put the student experience first, opening new dialogue channels while promoting further the interaction with industry and the visibility at national and international level."

Jorge will continue to lead his research group, covering a broad spectrum of topics. Their ultimate goal is to develop techniques, devices and solutions that enable exploiting the potential of integrated photonics with special emphasis on quantum information processing. They explore light-matter interaction for the efficient generation of quantum states of light, devise schemes for scalable photonic circuits and analyse the trade-offs in complex photonic systems.
