COMET study successfully completes recruitment

6 May 2015

The COMET study, a study of emollients (moisturisers) for children with eczema, has successfully reached its recruitment target with 197 referrals and 153 children still in the study.

Eczema is a common condition for which moisturisers are an accepted treatment. There are many different moisturisers used in the treatment of eczema, and it is currently unclear which of these is the most effective. By monitoring the treatment of eczema with moisturisers, the researchers hope to find the most effective option.

The study team recruited children from practices in the Avon area (Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire) and aims to find out if it is possible do a fair test of four different types of moisturiser (a lotion, gel, cream and ointment).
