Avoidable hospital admissions: myth or reality?

Dr Sarah Purdy will present a summary of her research on risk factors for unplanned admission, interventions aimed at reducing unplanned admission and the views of professionals and patients.

Rising levels of unplanned hospital admissions are one of the biggest challenges facing the NHS. Reducing these admissions is a focus for many NHS organisations and unplanned admission levels are included in the new NHS outcomes framework.

Along with colleagues at the University of Bristol and NHS Bristol, Dr Sarah Purdy (Reader in Primary Health Care,) has undertaken research into risk factors for unplanned admission, interventions aimed at reducing unplanned admission and the views of professionals and patients on this important issue. She will present a summary of these findings at this seminar.
