Parent and carer involvement

Parent Involvement

There are 3 main ways you, as parents and carers can get involved with the Active for Life Year 5 study:

Parent Questionnaire

Picture of stack of coins You, as parents and carers of Active for Life Year 5 children, are an important part of the study. We want to know about you too, so will be sending all parents and carers a questionnaire to complete in the spring/summer of 2012. Picture of a clockWe will try to find out how much the Active for Life Year 5 syllabus costs to parents and society in terms of time and money, compared to the normal syllabus. The questionnaire will help us find out whether parents in schools that teach the Active for Life Year 5 lessons spend more or less time helping children with homework, more or less time and money on children’s activities and clubs, more or less money on food shopping, and make more of less use of the NHS than parents of children in schools that continue to teach the ‘normal’ syllabus.

Parents of children in schools that are teaching the Active for Life Year 5 lessons will be sent the same questionnaire as parents of children that are in schools that are not teaching the Active for Life Year 5 lessons. This will allow us to compare the results.

Parent log

Picture of representative section of a questionnaire The questionnaire that we send to parents/carers in summer/spring 2012, asks you to remember all the way back to the autumn term. To help with this, we are sending all parents a Parent Log during the autumn term, to help them record the information they will need for the questionnaire.

We will not ask you to return the log; it is simply to help you complete the questionnaire.

Remember there are no right or wrong answers when you complete the questionnaire, it is not a test! The information you provide will be kept confidential, we will not share it with the school, the council or social services, it will purely be used by the researchers.

If you have questions about the parent log or the questionnaire, please do not hesitate to contact us by email at afly5-scm@bristol.ac.uk or by telephone on 0117 331 4011.

The answers you provide in your questionnaire will be very useful to our research, so THANK YOU for your help!
