MIGHTEE Code of Conduct

The following text outlines the Code of Conduct that the MeerKAT MIGHTEE LSP (MIGHTEE) follows.

MIGHTEE Code of Conduct

The MeerKAT MIGHTEE LSP (MIGHTEE) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of professional behaviour, and as such we have a formal Code of Conduct which defines the standards and professional behaviours expected and applies to anyone participating in MIGHTEE-related activities, including all staff, students and postdocs who are members or associates of the MIGHTEE LSP.

Everyone involved in MIGHTEE shares responsibility for the welfare of the project and of the community within it. All members of the MIGHTEE community should act ethically in the conduct of their work and in relations with other project members, as well as members of the public.

MIGHTEE members are expected to adhere to the following guidelines:

  • All people encountered in professional life should be treated with respect. At no time is abusive, demeaning, humiliating, accusatory or intimidating behaviour acceptable. This includes both interactions in person and via electronic means. Abuses of power are unacceptable.
  • Everyone should work to provide an environment that encourages the free expression and exchange of ideas, valuing difference and recognising the contribution from those with different cultures, backgrounds, opinions and ideas.
  • Behave professionally. Harassment and sexist, racist, political, or exclusionary comments or jokes are not appropriate.
  • All communication should be appropriate for a professional audience including people of many different backgrounds. Sexual or sexist language and imagery is not appropriate.
  • Be considerate and respectful towards others. Do not insult or put down other people.
  • All forms of social media should be used responsibly.
  • Individuals asked to stop any inappropriate behaviour are expected to comply immediately. The first breach of the code will result in a formal warning; the second breach will result in that person's removal from MIGHTEE. If that person has students or postdocs working on MIGHTEE data, the students and postdocs should stay with no penalty. The relevant WG can make arrangements to find additional supervision support for students if they need it.
  • Any LSP member who wishes to discuss or report a violation of this policy may do so in confidence by sending an email to/contacting the WG Chairs in the first instance and if there is no conflict. In the event that the person does not feel able to contact the WG chairs, then the one or both of the PIs should be contacted. If a person wishes to contact a person not associated with their working group, then other working group chairs can be contacted.
