Towards the SKAO: Partnerships and Africa’s role in the next generation of global radio astronomy

As observations of the MIGHTEE large survey programme are nearing completion, science exploitation of this exceptional dataset is ongoing at pace. We are hosting a 3-day symposium, bringing together active members of the MIGHTEE project, to present ongoing work and recent results, and to build collaborations for new projects.

SARAO

4 - 8 September 2023, University of Bristol, Bristol, UK

The symposium will be in person, with a virtual attendance option for those unable to travel. We particularly encourage in-person attendance by Early Career Researchers, who have had limited travel opportunity over the previous years. The 3-day symposium will be followed by a 2-day workshop, focusing on transferring useful skills for radio astronomy.

The symposium is sponsored by the Bristol Collegiate Research Society and the University of Bristol School of Physics, covering costs of the meeting plus supplementing travel costs for South Africa-based attendees.

Public Lecture:

Prof. Dr. J.M. van der Hulst, Emeritus Professor in Radio Astronomy at the Kapteyn Institute, University of Groningen, will be delivering the BCRS public lecture, titled
"Impact of the advances in radio astronomy on science and society"
