Describing binary variables (prevalence & incidence)

Learning Outcomes

On watching this video, students should be able to:

  1. Apply and interpret proportions and rates to describe binary outcomes.
  2. Define and interpret a disease prevalence as the proportion of a population that have an outcome at a particular point in time.
  3. Define and interpret a disease incidence as the rate of disease or risk of disease over a time period.
  4. Analyse and draw conclusions from estimates of disease incidence and prevalence in the published literature.
