1. What inspired you to come and study in Bristol and specifically at the Law School?
Bristol was one of my first choices as I had heard that it was a lovely place to live in and study. I was not disappointed at all, as I greatly enjoyed my three years here. The University's Law School has always been one of the top law schools in UK, and I wanted to challenge myself and learn from leading academics.
2. What were the highlights of your time at Bristol?
One of the key highlights would have to be meeting my husband in my final year of law school. On top of that, Bristol continues to take a special place in my heart as I met many friends whom I continue to keep in touch with till this day. I also loved exploring Bristol - different parts of Bristol, from the Harbourside Area to Clifton Village, channels a different vibe!
3. What was the biggest challenge you faced while studying here?
One of the biggest challenges was adapting to a different environment while being away from home. Having grown up in Singapore, I had a lot to get used to when I commenced my studies abroad for the first time in my life. I had to adapt to a different schooling and physical environment. However, I was (and remain) extremely grateful that I met many tutors and professors who were patient and willing to impart their knowledge to me.
Suffice to say, I eventually grew accustomed to studying here and stayed on (on my own accord!) for one more year in the UK, during which I completed my postgraduate studies in law.
4. How did you find your time at Bristol helped you to get to where you are now?
A law degree from the University is well-recognised in Singapore, due to a strong alumni base in the local legal fraternity. Upon graduation, I secured a training contract with one of the big four local law firms, Rajah & Tann Singapore LLP. I am currently a commercial disputes lawyer with the firm, and greatly enjoy my work as it is dynamic, exciting and extremely rewarding. As my work frequently involves cross-border disputes, I find that my experience studying abroad has also helped me to better appreciate and work with clients from different countries and cultures.
5. What advice would you give to international students considering studying at Bristol?
I would strongly advise international students considering studying at Bristol to go for it! You will enjoy your time at Bristol, and meet like-minded people who share your intellectual curiosity and eagerness to learn.
