HRIC News: Current issues and common challenges for the protection of human rights in Europe, Africa and the Americas

On Friday 14th June, in London, the Human Rights Implementation Centre, the Bingham Centre for the Rule of Law, Essex University's Human Rights Centre and the Bonavero Institute of Human Rights at the University of Oxford held a conference on 'Current issues and common challenges for the protection of human rights in Europe, Africa and the Americas'.

This considered current issues and common challenges facing the three regional court systems in Europe, Africa and the Americas: the European Court of Human Rights; the African Commission and Court on Human and Peoples' Rights; and the Inter-American Commission and Court of Human Rights. 

The event brought together leading figures from the three regional systems, including a Vice President of the ECtHR. The Rt Hon Lord Justice Singh of the Court of Appeal of England and Wales spoke on the domestic application of international judgments. Other speakers included members of UN and regional treaty bodies, NHRIs, civil society and academics.
