The Successful Law Student: An Insider's Guide to Studying Law

A new book by the Law School's Imogen Moore and Craig Newbery-Jones (University of Plymouth) presents an extensive guide for law students in how to make the most of the legal studies experience, both in the classroom and beyond.

The Successful Law Student: An Insider's Guide to Studying Law (Oxford University Press, 2018) is aimed towards students taking all types of law degrees, be it full-time or part-time, a course lasting one year or spanning four, and covers the sweep of the law degree timeline, from embarking on one's studies to finding rewarding work after graduation. 

Inclusive and filled with real-life stories and advice from current and past students, this book offers insight into the things that will most affect your student experience. Topics include guidance on getting the most out of lecturesassessments and feedback, and exam preparation techniques.  

The book also looks beyond the classroom to consider other ways of making the most of opportunities, including insights into volunteering and enhancing legal skills through mooting and negotiationas well as what success means in wider terms, and how to ease the pressure that can come with legal studies.

Imogen Moore is a Senior Teaching Fellow in Law and Director of Education at the University of Bristol Law School. Before commencing her academic career Imogen practiced as a barrister, specialising in Chancery-Commercial work, particularly insolvency law. Her main interests in both teaching and research lie in Company Law, Corporate Insolvency and Trusts Law. Imogen also has a keen interest in higher education and pedagogy, particularly in the areas of assessment and feedback and transition to university study.
