Why Do YOU Love Bristol? Mariya's story

Press release issued: 17 May 2017

As part of a University campaign to celebrate life as a student in Bristol, Mariya Kolomiyets of the Law Clinic talks of how the opportunity to solve real legal problems has helped her develop practical skills that text books alone can't teach.

"Why do YOU love Bristol?" is a campaign to raise awareness of how Bristol graduates leave with the skills they need to lead exceptional lives, and how this is making them the most sought-after by top employers.

In the campaign video, Mariya commented;

I've always liked helping people and problem-solving with others. The Law Clinic is a unique service that offers free legal advice to anyone in the community. Just having the opportunity to have an impact and reduce people's stress is amazing. The University made me feel at home. Made me feel wanted. As an international student that made a difference.

Bristol is known to be full of energy and diversity, making it one of the best place to live in the UK. Our links with local partners connect the city to the classroom and allow our students to address real-world problems for the good of society.

Mariya's work with the Law Clinic has seen her working with partners such as CLIC Sargent and Bristol Drugs Project to deliver drop-in centres that provide legal advice to some of the communties most vulnerable people.
