Last month Dr Arzandeh delivered an invited lecture at the Contract Law Update Seminar at St John’s Chambers, Bristol. The aim of the seminar, which is held twice-yearly at one of the leading barristers’ sets in the South West, is to bring practitioners up to speed with the latest legal developments in the fields of contract and commercial law.
Dr Arzandeh’s lecture, entitled ‘The Contra Proferentem rule in English Law’, examined the role and relevance of the doctrine of contra proferentem in the construction of exclusion clauses in commercial contracts. In this context, it focused on the recent Court of Appeal ruling in Persimmon Homes Ltd v Ove Arup [2017] EWCA Civ 373, and its wider implications for the interpretation of exclusion clauses.
