Oliver Quick presents paper at US Health Law Professors Conference

10 June 2016

Dr. Oliver Quick, Senior Lecturer in Law at the University of Bristol Law School, presented a paper at the 39th Annual Health Law Professors conference on June 4th 2016 hosted by Boston University and Harvard Law School.

Oliver's paper is called 'Leaving patients to their own devices?' and explores the regulatory, ethical and policy challenges presented by mobile medical technology. This technology includes apps which provide fitness data via smart phones or watches to more advanced products which can track heart rate and rhythm, monitor maternal and fetal health, and scan suspicious skin lesions, for example. The paper explores the challenge of regulating the safety of such technology, and considers the implications of using self-monitoring devices for therapeutic relationships.

The conference is organised by the American Society of Law, Medicine and Ethics, and further information can be found on their website.
