Law School expands employability programme

Clair Gammage, Director of Employability at the Law School

Press release issued: 9 February 2016

A new series of careers events is set to expand opportunities for students to gain skills and knowledge for careers, both in and out of law.

Popularity in a law degree continues to grow, because it enables students to develop many skills that are transferable beyond the legal setting.

Whilst the Law School is committed to maintaining strong links with commercial law practitioners, this new series of employability events aims to guide students towards a variety of career paths.

On Tuesday 9 February the Law School is hosting the first in the series. ‘Alternatives with a Law Degree’ is a panel discussion, during which law graduates will discuss how they have used their law degree to gain employment in non-legal fields.

There is a clear demand from students to learn about where their law degree can take them. This event, the first in the series, was organised as a result of their feedback – and is already fully-booked

On Tuesday 1 March, the Law School is hosting a Legal Sector Networking event. This will provide students with the opportunity to find out about the range of organisations available to practice law, as well as other career paths that are closely linked to the legal sector. This event will be particularly attractive for students considering alternative careers within the legal field.

All events will be managed in partnership with the Careers Service. The Law School will be publicising more of these events in the forthcoming academic year.

The school will also be welcoming a host of speakers through the Distinguished Alumni Lectures. These lectures offer invaluable insight into many aspects of the legal field – both commercial and non-commercial law – as well as sectors closely related to the law.

Further information

Sign up for ‘Legal Sector Networking’ will be publicised on MyCareer within the next couple of weeks. You will receive a reminder email.
