An enthusiastic supporter of Bristol’s Law School, Daniel Schaffer is committed to doing whatever he can to help each generation of law students - and on receipt of his honorary degree encouraged them also to reach back, engage and repay.

Daniel Schaffer (LLB 1986) is a solicitor and partner at Herbert Smith Freehills. He is the Chair of the University of Bristol Law School Advisory Board and was responsible for the establishment of our unique Distinguished Alumni Lecture Programme. At this year's graduation ceremony Daniel received an honorary Doctor of Laws for his dedication to helping students gain the skills they need to get ahead in careers both in and outside the law.

"It is a privilege and pleasure to remain actively involved in the Law School. Bristol helped me so I owe it a life-long moral debt which I am repaying. I encourage all alumni to remain engaged with the School,” Daniel Schaffer.

Daniel graduated in 1986 and went on to take the BCL at Oxford. Whilst practising as a solicitor, Daniel has taught and lectured at Oxford, Cambridge, LSE, Warwick and Bristol.
