Combating torture and other ill-treatment: An Amnesty International book launch and panel discussion

The Human Rights Implementation Centre, in partnership with Amnesty International, is organising an event on Friday 11 November to launch a new manual 'Combating torture and other ill-treatment'.  

The manual sets out in detail states obligations to enforce the absolute prohibition on torture and other ill-treatment. The new publication provides comprehensive guidance for anyone working to end these abuses worldwide.

The event will start with a panel discussion, followed by a drinks reception.

Confirmed panel members are:

  •  Mohamed Nasheed, Fourth president of the Maldives and human rights activist
  • Professor Malcolm Evans, OBE, Chair of the UN Subcommittee on Prevention of Torture and Deputy Director of the HRIC
  • Mona Elthawy, award winning columnist and commentator
  • Karen McKenzie, Head of the Human Rights Unit of the Commonwealth Secretariat
  • Debra Long, Principal writer of the manual and Senior Research Associate at the HRIC
