Bristol law lecturers and student societies come together for a charity moot

22 February 2016

The Law School hosted the second Lecturer’s Moot fundraising money for the Avon and Bristol Law Centre (ABLC) on February 10, 2016.

Professor Michael Ford QC, Professor Antonia Layard, Dr. Albert Sánchez Graells and Mr Nick Pointon argued their case before Mr Guy Adams (Barrister, St John’s Chambers). More than 120 students attended the event filling Wills Memorial Building’s Coutts Lecture Theatre to the brim. The event raised a total £272.18 that is going to the ABLC, which provides specialist legal advice and representation to people who could not otherwise afford access to justice.

The charity moot was both educational and entertaining, as students got an understanding of what a moot is, but also enjoyed a wide variety of entertaining arguments, including occasionally sketchy ones involving Justin Bieber fandom and visual aids!

The event was a joint organisational effort by Bristol Bar Society, University of Bristol Law Club (UBLC) and the newly founded Pro-Bono Society (University of Bristol Law Clinic).

The Law School’s Mooting Academic Advisor, Sofia Galani, said: ‘Bristol law students showed once again how dedicated they are to organising successful student events – this time for a good cause! We are grateful to the lecturers, for giving up their time to participate in the event, all the student attendees, and our judge, Mr Guy Adams’.
