Brexit: A climactic decision?

Press release issued: 22 June 2016

With the Referendum imminent a blog from Reader in Sustainability and Law, Chris Wilmore, questions why the environment has singularly failed to make itself an issue in the BREXIT debate.

It is impossible to explore any aspect of environmental law in the UK without encountering European Law.  It is therefore no surprise that environmental lawyers and environmental groups have been queuing up to express concerns about the implications of BREXIT.

In her recent blog, Chris asks why the environment has not become a key issue, and pens her thoughts following her attendance at the All-Party Parliamentary Climate Change Group’s event ‘A Climactic Decision which was held at the Houses of Parliament earlier this month.

The aim of the event was to explore Brexit’s impact on the UK’s climate and environment.  Chris provides a summary of discussions that primarily focused on the power of the EU versus the UK in ensuring environmental law is adopted and adhered to generally and in terms of climate change, free trade and energy provision.
