Bristol Alumnus wins Hong Kong by-election

Press release issued: 28 February 2016

Bristol graduate Alvin Yeung (MA 2007), a barrister and member of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong, recently won a by-election as the Civic Party candidate

Yeung, a candidate from Hong Kong’s pro-democracy Civic Party, won the by-election, defeating the pro-establishment candidate, Holden Chow Ho-ding, and preserving the status quo between democratic and pro-Beijing forces in the Legislative Council.

In an article in the International Business Times Yeung commented,

This election reflected that the people wanted the pan-democrats, the Civic Party and the legislature to reform.
