Students Win Virtual Teaching Award

29 May 2015

Bristol undergraduate law students, Kieran Sherman, Polly Ovenden and Holly Lloyd have won an award for a Virtual University videoconference teaching session delivered simultaneously to a number of different schools from across the country. They won first prize for best Teaching and Learning Session of the year and were awarded a trophy (pictured here) by the UK VC Partnerships Group.

Kieran, Polly and Holly delivered one of the extremely successful Human Rights Act outreach sessions, which students run as part of the Law School’s widening participation activities. These sessions are run by undergraduates who have studied Constitutional Rights as part of their Law degree. Generally students visit local inner-city schools, introducing Year 9 and Year 10 students to the concept of human rights - this is the first time they have been delivered remotely.

As well as the human rights classes, which were devised by Law Lecturer Dr Devyani Prabhat, the School runs and participates in a range of widening participation activities including the Pathways to Law programme for years 12 and 13. For further information about this work, contact Lois Bibbings, Senior Lecturer in Law or Alex O’Driscoll in the Widening Participation and Undergraduate Recruitment Office.
