Conference on strengthening follow-up on recommendations of National Preventive Mechanisms in the EU

On 29 April 2015 the Human Rights Implementation Centre and the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Human Rights (BIM) held a conference on strengthening follow-up on recommendations of National Preventive Mechanisms (NPMs) operating in the EU.  The conference was the concluding event of a joint research project funded by the EU and brought together representatives from NPMs, the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT), the UN Subcommittee on Prevention of Torture (SPT), as well as representatives from the EU, State and civil society.

In the framework of the conference the preliminary findings of the project were presented and discussed with a view to finalising a study on Strengthening the effective implementation and follow-up of recommdentations by torture monitoring bodies in the European Union.  This study will be produced jointly by BIM and the HRIC and provide a collection of good practices for effective follow-up on recommendations of NPMs in the EU.
