HRIC participation at the 13th UN Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice

16 April 2015

For the 13th UN Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice held in Doha, Qatar between 12 and 19 April 2015, the HRIC developed, in partnership with the Open Society Justice Initiative (OSJI), a paper on the implementation of human rights standards. ''International & Regional Standards: 10 Steps Towards Change' (PDF, 171kB)' is part of a series of papers commissioned by the OSJI aimed at highlighting the need for renewed and sustained efforts to implement standards relating to criminal justice reform.  The paper sets out 10 key practical steps that are designed to help guide implementation, identifying the different roles of the executive, judiciary, parliament, oversight bodies and regional or international bodies in the process.

The paper was presented at a panel discussion - 'From Law to Practice: The Implementation of International and Regional Standards' organised by OSJI on 15 April 2015.  Professor Malcolm Evans participated in this panel discussion in his capacity as Chair of the UN Subcommittee on Prevention of Torture.
