The University has enrolled 21 Chevening scholars for 2015/16, a 50 per cent increase from last year. Established in 1983, Chevening is one of the government’s flagship international scholarship and fellowship schemes, aimed at developing global leaders. It is funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and parent organisations, and boasts a global alumni network exceeding 43,000.
The Law School is delighted to welcome Mohamed Sharaf from Egypt. After graduating from Ain Shams University in Egypt, Mohamed will study LLM Commercial Law here at Bristol through the Chevening scheme.
Available in over 160 countries and territories, the scholarships are awarded to outstanding emerging leaders to study for a Master’s degree at a UK university. Chevening attracts high achievers working in government, business, academia, the media, and civil society who demonstrate the qualities and ambition to rise to positions of leadership in their home countries.
This year’s scholars are studying a range of subjects in the Faculty of Social Sciences and Law, including international relations, international development, education, public policy, environmental policy and management, economics and finance, and law.
Previous Chevening scholars have gone on to use their skills to transform lives. Teocah Dove, one of last year’s cohort, who completed an MSc in Gender and International Relations at Bristol, was awarded a Queen’s Young Leaders Award for her youth and community development work.
