Conference on the Environmental Law and Policy Implications of Brexit

With Britain facing a European Referendum in 2017, this all day conference considers the implications of Brexit on UK Environmental policy, so much of which currently derives from the European Union and will ask what agencies, regulators and regulated industries are doing to prepare.

The conference will draw together environmental law academics, legal practitioners, regulators and anyone else with an interest in this topical issue. It is organised jointly by the University of Bristol, the United Kingdom Environmental Law Association (UKLEA) and the Society of Legal Scholars.

The programme features plenary sessions with presentations by legal academics and policy experts and representatives from the European Commission and the Environment Agency. Workshops will also offer delegates the opportunity to share their thoughts on the most pertinent issues, as well as the next steps to be taken.

One of the conference’s key aims is to outline the real challenges that Brexit poses for legislators, regulators, businesses and others affected by environment law and to identify avenues for further research.

The Conference will be chaired by the University of Bristol’s Chris Willmore who, this November, will also be speaking at the Copernicus Alliance Conference of European Universities in Madrid on the topic of ‘City Student sustainability engagement as a locale for developing intercultural competencies’. Other notable speakers include David Baldock, Executive Director at the Institute for European Environmental Policy and Jacqueline Minor, Head of the European Commission's representation in the UK.
