Dr Judy Laing & Professor Rachel Murray invited to deliver workshop on 'OPCAT & Mental Health Monitoring' to the Care Quality Commission

11 March 2015

Judy Laing and Rachel Murray delivered a workshop in London on 10th March 2015 to senior members of the CQC, front-line inspectors and representatives from other UK regulators/monitors on the relationship between OPCAT and mental health monitoring. Judy and Rachel successfully completed a funded research project for the CQC in 2012 which was an international comparative review of mental health monitoring mechanisms. The research fed into the CQC's strategic review of their monitoring methodology in 2013. Judy & Rachel have since developed strong links with the regulator, under the auspices of the Human Rights Implementation Centre in Bristol Law School. They have also been asked to advise other members of the UK's National Preventive Mechanism under OPCAT, including the Healthcare Inspectorate for Wales and the Regulatory and Quality Improvement Authority in Northern Ireland.

Judy is a member of the CQC's Mental Health Act Advisory Group and provides regular feedback and advice to the CQC on their annual mental heath report and monitoring strategy.
