The Immigration Bill is bad news for families

The 2015 Immigration Bill, which is currently making its way through parliament, could have grave implications for asylum-seeking families if passed without amendment.

In an attempt to save money and increase voluntary returns, the UK Government intends to make over 2,900 families refused asylum homeless. But which families, and at what cost? In this blog for openDemocracy Katie Bales examines the potential consequences for families should the Immigration Bill 2015 be passed without amendment. She argues that the 'cost saving' justifications presented by the Government are misguided and that the passing of the Bill is more likely to result in increased costs to the taxpayer and, more worryingly, increased instances of exploitation.
