Law School hosts successful Legal Research Network Postgraduate Summer School and Academic Conference

On the 1-4 September 2014, the Law School hosted a very successful and well-attended conference and postgraduate summer school on the topical theme of ‘The interface of European and National law’.  Bristol is part of a network of European universities which include the Universities of Budapest (ELTE), Ghent, Göttingen, Groningen, Lille – Nord du France, Turku and Uppsala.  The Summer School offered PhD students from all these institutions the opportunity to hear lectures and give presentations with expert feedback.  The Academic Conference (opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Law Professor Wendy Larner) attracted high quality research papers on topics as diverse as European administrative law, private international law, health law, private law, insolvency law, the law of corporate governance and procedural law.  Conference organisers Professor Paula Giliker and Dr Ardavan Arzandeh commented: “We very much enjoyed welcoming both PhD students and leading European scholars to the University of Bristol.  The Summer School and Academic Conference provided an excellent forum for the exchange of ideas and for the development of future academic collaboration.”
