Dr Judy Laing, a Senior Lecturer in the Law School has been appointed to the Care Quality Commission's Mental Health Act Advisory Group. The Care Quality Commission is the health and adult social care regulator in England. The Mental Health Act Advisory group was first established in 2012 to work with the CQC on delivering the Mental Health Act Annual Report. Since that time the CQC has announced its new monitoring strategy and plans to align and integrate the Mental Health Act with the Health and Social Care Act powers. The CQC strategy is committed to strengthening its approach to the Mental Health Act. Members of the Advisory Group have been appointed to provide expertise, experience and advice to inform the CQC's approach and scope, as well as commenting and advising the CQC on the plans for delivering their statutory duties in the Mental Health Act. The CQC hopes that the recently expanded terms of reference for the Advisory group will allow individuals and organisations to work with the organisation on delivering the strategy and commenting on progress and plans going forward.
