The meeting will discuss the impact of tax abuses and transnational crimes on poverty and human rights.
Professor Celia Wells, IBAHRI Task Force member and Professor of Criminal Law, Head of Bristol University Law School, will moderate the first multi-stakeholder consultation meeting of the International Bar Association’s Human Rights Institute (IBAHRI) Taskforce on Illicit Financial Flows, Poverty and Human rights, in Sao Paulo Brazil, 14 June 2012.
The meeting will discuss the impact of tax abuses and transnational crimes on poverty and human rights. During the course of 2012-2013 the IBAHRI Task Force will produce and innovative report analysing the links between illicit financial flows, poverty and human rights. Consultation meetings are central to informing the Task Force.
Topics to be discussed include: mineral taxation and transfer pricing regimes in the region, secrecy jurisdictions and international tax evasion, transparency and information exchange, as well as sharing good practices and recommendations for improving remedies within the region.
