The School of Law congratulates Tanya Palmer who has been awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy. Tanya’s work, which was supervised by Lois Bibbings (Law) and Melanie McCarry (School for Policy Studies), focused upon ideas about sex. Her thesis, ‘Contested Concepts: Sex and Sexual Violation in the Criminal Law’, explored this boundary through a combination of theoretical and empirical research. The latter involved conducting interviews and focus groups with lay people, police officers, domestic violence support workers, and case workers supporting women engaged in street based sex work. Her examiners were Christina Pantazis (School for Policy Studies, Bristol University) and Professor Nicola Lacey (All Souls College, Oxford University).

We are delighted that Tanya will be remaining at the Law School as she is taking up an ESRC post-doctoral position here.
