Dr Elina Steinerte of the Human Rights Implementation Centre has just been asked to participate in the newly established Council of Independent Experts on International and European law of the Republic of Latvia. The Council, composed of individual experts in international and European law who all serve in their individual capacities, has been convened by the Minister of Foreign Affairs with the aim of assisting the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to formulate its responses to the various issues emerging at the international level. This is the first time that such a Council is being convened since Latvia regained its independence in 1991. The Council will meet for the first time on 1 March 2012 in Riga, the capital of Latvia.
