Professor Gerard McMeel is a Visiting Professor of Law at Singapore Management University during June and July 2010, where he will teaching a course on Banking Law and undertaking research.

Professor Gerard McMeel is a Visiting Professor of Law at Singapore Management University during June and July, where he will teaching a course on Banking Law and undertaking research. In addition, he will be delivering a seminar to Singapore’s professional legal community at the Singapore Academy of Law on 6 July 2010 at the Supreme Court Auditorium on the “ Interpretation of Contracts.”

Gerard’s work on the interpretation of contracts - in particular his book The Construction of Contracts – Interpretation, Implication and Rectification (published by Oxford University Press in 2007) - has  been influential in Singapore where it is regularly cited, including in the landmark decision of the Singapore Court of Appeal in Zurich Insurance (Singapore) Pte Ltd v B-Gold Interior Design & Construction Pte Ltd [2008] SGCA 27 (as well as being relied upon in the English and Australian courts).

Gerard has been Professor of Law at the University of Bristol since 2002. His research interests comprise all aspects of commercial and financial law. He is also one of the editors of McMeel and Virgo on Financial Advice and Financial Products – Law and Liability (Oxford University Press, 2nd ed, 2007), as well as many articles on contract, commercial and financial law.
