Community Impact Team
Our students participate in various projects to improve public legal education, influence government policy, and support aspiring law students.
Public Legal Education
We deliver presentations to local organisations, simplifying legal issues and empowering individuals with legal knowledge. For example, students partner with ACH to deliver webinars on employment rights for refugee and migrant communities. These events have been attended by individuals from Ukraine, Hong Kong and Afghanistan.
Government consultations
We contribute to government consultations with well-researched responses to shape policy and legislation. This experience allows students to engage directly with the policy development process. Students have taken part in consultations on welfare benefits and Employment Tribunal fees.
Schools
We provide interactive sessions at local secondary schools, discussing law at university, career pathways in law, and tips for aspiring law students. Our students make a positive difference by encouraging pupils to consider higher education and where studying law might take them.
If you would like our Law Clinic students to give a presentation at your school or organisation, please contact us at bristollawclinic-communitylaw@bristol.ac.uk.
Students have done a great job in preparing and delivering presentations around employment rights such as zero hours contracts, the minimum/living wage, sick pay and holiday entitlement and many other topics.
I felt like it gave me the opportunity to help those in the community - for example I did a presentation at a high school on going into the legal profession and felt like it really made a positive difference.
