Methods in Evidence Synthesis seminar (MESS)

Vaccines are an extremely powerful and highly cost-effective public health intervention. However, sustaining high and equitable uptake of vaccinations is challenging. In the UK, there have been concerning declines in the uptake of vaccinations in recent years. We will describe an ongoing evidence synthesis project which aims to establish which interventions are most effective in increasing vaccine uptake, and to explore variation in the effectiveness of interventions according to intervention features, context and socio-demographic characteristics of the population.

Speakers:

Clare French - Clare is a Research Fellow in Evidence Synthesis based in the NIHR Health Protection Research Unit in Behavioural Science and Evaluation at the University of Bristol. She has conducted reviews on a broad range of topics, focused mainly on interventions for infectious diseases. She has a particular interest in vaccine-preventable diseases and the effectiveness of interventions to increase vaccine uptake, especially among underserved populations. Clare currently leads an NIHR funded systematic review and component network meta-analysis on the effectiveness of interventions to increase vaccine uptake.

Sarah Davies - I completed my BSc, MRes and PhD in Psychology at The University of Manchester before moving to the University of Bristol in 2013 to work as a Post-doc in the Nutrition and Behaviour Unit at the School of Psychological Sciences. After this role I moved to work within the field of Evidence synthesis and have spent the past 9 years working with the methodology. I spent five years as an Editor for Cochrane in the Common Mental Disorders, and Developmental, Psychosocial and learning problems review groups and four years as a Senior Research Associate in Evidence Synthesis in the Medical School at the University of Bristol. I am currently working as a Senior Research Associate on a NIHR funded Systematic Review and component-level Network Meta-Analysis of interventions to increase vaccine uptake.
