Infection, Inflammation and Immunotherapy group "Pitch to Peers" meeting

14 May 2024, 10.30 AM - 14 May 2024, 11.30 AM

Churchill Building Room 103, Langford campus

A meeting of the I3 (Infection, Inflammation and Immunotherapy) community at Bristol Veterinary School.

What is a Pitch to Peers?

Briefly, these sessions involves a brief presentation outlining an intended funding application (or paper, fellowship,  followed by feedback from other researchers. The intention is to help researchers identify the best funding mechanisms for a specific project, to hone funding apps, and to facilitate collaboration within the group. It also serves as an excellent way for more junior researchers to gain an appreciation of funding app design/considerations so it is helpful if we have pitches from researchers at all career stages.

Proposed format for the sessions:

  • Each applicant will have five minutes to pitch their project (with slides) followed by ten minutes of feedback from the panel.
  • The pitch should ideally cover the following:
  • Aim/Overarching Research Question (i.e. the big picture) and Timeliness (why now?)
  • Why [FUNDER] (fit to strategic priorities), why you (why are you/your collaborators uniquely placed to deliver on the work?) and why Bristol      (key facilities, field sites, etc?)
  • Research Objectives (brief outline of what the proposal aims to do and how you plan to do it, including what preliminary data you already have to support the feasibility of these objectives)
  • Impact (who will ultimately benefit from this research and how).
  • Specific concerns/questions you have for the panel (are there specific questions about ‘fit’, approach, timing that you would like to ask?  Have you identified any weak points that you would specifically like the committee’s thoughts on?)

Pitches can be for applications at any stage of development. Email Ian Cadby with the title of your pitch together with the board/funding panel it is aimed at for a slot.
