Why (teaching and research in) primary care matters

13 April 2023, 6.15 PM - 13 April 2023, 8.00 PM

Professor Matthew Ridd (Bristol Medical School)

Reception Room, Wills Memorial Building

General Practice has been central to the NHS since it began and I will argue that primary care remains an essential element for high quality and cost effective healthcare. Teaching and research in primary care are the keys to its survival, training the workforce to deliver evidence based care.

Matthew Ridd (@riddmj) is a GP in Portishead, North Somerset; and Professor of Primary Health Care at the University of Bristol, UK. His research interests include patient-doctor relationships, and skin and allergy problems diagnosed and managed in primary care. He has led or supported 17 clinical trials and his contribution to the discipline of General Practice was recognised by the RCGP in 2016. He also leads the teaching of Clinical Contact (Effective Consulting) in the second year of Bristol Medical School’s MB ChB programme.

This talk will be followed by a free drinks reception.
