The Beauty of Data competition 2017

In 2017, the Jean Golding Institute launched the Beauty of Data Competition inviting staff and students at the University to submit data visualisations representing their research.

Over 30 submissions were received by the Institute. The entries were judged on the quality of their content, creativity and visual appeal. The winners were announced at an event to showcase the newly launched Jean Golding Institute to academic and research colleagues on 23 February.

The winners and runners-up were awarded as follows:

Winner

  • Nathan Chrismas, PhD Student, Geographical Sciences with ‘The Family tree of cyanobacteria’

Runners-Up

  • Kate Oliver, PhD Student, Bristol Centre for Functional Nanomaterials with ‘How far can an awn take you?’
  • Oliver Davis, Dynamic Genetics Lab, part of the MRC Integrative Epidemiology Unit at the University with ‘How much our genome affects us depends on where we grow up’
