Dryland Research Group
The Dryland Research Group carries out theoretical and applied research on a range of aspects in drylands, including: hydro-climatology, climate impacts, Earth surface processes, and desertification dynamics.
A current major focus of the group’s research is on climate impacts on water and food security in East African drylands. This involves several funded multidisciplinary research programmes focused on translating climate information into water impacts, droughts and land degradation in East African drylands of Somalia, Kenya and Ethiopia. This research has a strong international development focus and involves the creation of novel tools (including models and mobile phone apps) to aid rural communities in adapting to droughts and future climate change.
