Gas Chromatographs

Agilent 7890GC FID/ECD  - Gas Chromatography – Flame Ionization Detector/Electron Capture Detector

The Agilent 7890GC with FID/ECD can simultaneously detect the greenhouse gases CO2, CH4 and N2O in small volume (~1mL) gas samples. It is interfaced with a PAL3 autosampler with bespoke gas vial trays that can accommodate 100 12ml or 5.9ml exetainer vials. It is routinely used for analysing greenhouse gases in samples which have been directly collected in the field or from river waters collected in the field when a head space is introduced.

Agilent 8890GC FID/TCD - Gas Chromatography – Flame Ionization Detector/Total Conductivity Detector

The Agilent 8890GC with FID/TCD and a methaniser allows the detection and quantification of various gases among which we regularly run carbon dioxide, methane and other hydrocarbons such as acetylene and ethylene in small volume (~5mL) gas samples. It is used for measuring gases eluted after laboratory-controlled rock crushing. Another example application is the quantification of microbial nitrogen fixation via the acetylene reduction assay method.

Agilent 8860GC PDHID - Gas Chromatography – Pulsed Discharge Detector

The Agilent 8860GC with a PDHID detector is a bespoke GC system for the detection of H2 at atmospheric concentrations. It is interfaced with a headspace autosampler Agilent 8697 and can be used with gas, liquid or even solid samples. It uses ultra-clean He 99.9995% as carrier gas to guarantee the stability of the extremely sensitive PDHID detector.
