Pure online learning

For certain purposes it may be that a pure online only tutorial is required. This for more instructional or instrumental activities such as learning how to use information services processes but this is always best supported by opportunities for guidance if needed.

Blended learning

Although not universal in its application 'blended' learning usually refers to the retention of face to face elements of teaching enhanced by electronic technologies. That we still see 'the human element in tutorials, or perhaps incidents such as chance meetings in the corridor, as critical parts of the package alongside any technology-mediated intervention with a group' (MacDonald, 2008 p1). This is the hegemonic adoption within higher education institutions.
