Want to kickstart your career? Get into Teaching

23 February 2022

If you have a passion for your subject and you want to inspire the next generation, teaching could be the career for you. Our PGCE programmes for secondary teaching here at the University of Bristol are rated 'Outstanding' in the most recent Ofsted review. The PGCE is demanding and hands-on, but you’ll be supported and guided to become an excellent qualified teacher, opening up a wealth of career possibilities.

Training to be a teacher can offer you an exciting and interesting career path, and there are many reasons to train to teach:

  • Inspire others
  • Make a difference
  • Change the future of education practice
  • Work within a community of educators
  • Challenge yourself
  • Explore exciting opportunities and employability
  • Gain master’s credits

The PGCE at the University of Bristol is still open to applicants and we are recruiting in all our subjects (excluding History) for September 2022.

Due to the ongoing situation concerning the global pandemic, we are currently not carrying out face-to-face interviews. However, we are now offering interviews online.

Our interview processes will still be rigorous, including presentations or discussions, written tasks, and individual interviews, but we will be carrying them out remotely.

The PGCE at the University of Bristol was graded as Outstanding in our most recent Ofsted inspection and the report praised our programme saying that we offer “research-led training that leads to trainees’ deep pedagogical understanding. This builds on the strong academic calibre of trainees and their professionalism and develops highly effective teachers.”

Applications should be made through UCAS, and for more information about teacher training take a look at the government website 'Get into Teaching'. There you will find full details about training options, funding, salary and benefits, and much more.
