Drawing on the evidence presented in previous seminars as well as on the wider evidence base about realising change in higher education, this seminar will consider how decolonial approaches can be embedded within higher education systems and processes.

It will argue that given the deep-seated nature of coloniality, decolonising education is best conceived as an ongoing process rather than a final destination. It will also be argued that embedding change requires a whole-institutional approach. With reference to previous examples the seminar will consider strategies for overcoming resistance to change, the need for developing alliances for change - at the institutional, local, national and global levels, the need for both top-down and bottom-up change and for engaging the voice and agency of different stakeholders in the decolonisation process.

The seminar will also consider how decolonisation efforts might be evaluated across an institution given the difficulties of assurance in a context where the outcomes cannot be pre-determined. We also consider how change can be resourced and led within the institution and how processes of decolonisation articulate with wider university priorities and agendas.

The seminar will conclude with some reflections on the overall possibilities for embedding change in a university such as Bristol given its past history, current and future trajectory.
