Book title: Decolonizing Education for Sustainable Futures
Editors: Yvette Hutchinson, Artemio Arturo Cortez Ochoa, Julia Paulson, Leon Tikly
Bristol Studies in Comparative and International Education, Bristol University Press

The edited volume on which this Bristol Conversations in Education is based lies at the heart of UNESCO’s Futures of Education initiative – particularly, UNESCO background papers, many of which foreground the themes of decolonisation and sustainability as crucial to the future of education. The book explores and problematises how and why much of the knowledge, values and skills in formal education systems worldwide are fundamentally Eurocentric in origin and nature. Critical reflections that we engage with include differing conceptions of the natural and social world, contemporary indigenous and anti-racist social movements that have called for education to be decolonised and for diverse knowledge systems to be the basis for realising more equitable and sustainable futures. This Book Launch of Decolonising Education for Sustainable Futures in Bristol is aimed at generating an interactive conversation on decolonising and sustainability agendas in education. The presentation will gather Chapter authors, mainly from Bristol, who will bring their experiences and reflections on the decolonising and sustainability agendas as they present in primary, secondary and higher education institutions, as well as other social spaces.
