Speaker: Professor Simon McGrath, UNESCO Chair in International Education and Development, University of Nottingham and Extraordinary Professor, Faculty of Education, University of the Western Cape

Debates about skills for development are still predominantly locked into a model of skills provision, labour markets and national development that was never true in the Global South but is becoming even more blatantly pernicious in the light of the climate emergency. New accounts of skills development for sustainable futures, therefore, are a pressing challenge for research, practice and policy. In this seminar, Professor Simon McGrath will outline key potential elements of what a transformative vision for skills for sustainable development might look like and suggest a number of priority areas for research.
