Are you interested in a career in education but outside of the traditional classroom context?

Do you want to find out about careers where you can use your knowledge of education in a different setting?

This is your opportunity to hear in person from five people working in a diverse range of education roles in and around Bristol. They will talk about their current area of work, opportunities to gain relevant work experience, and advice on how to enter the sector. There will be plenty of time for you to ask them your questions too.

Our speakers:

  • Amy Seadon – Learning and Community Engagement Manager, Aerospace Learning. Amy started her career as a science teacher, before moving to be a STEM Learning Officer for The Mary Rose. She has been in her current role at Aerospace Learning for over seven years. 
  • Rachel Roberts – Head of Education, SS Great Britain. Rachel is the SS Great Britain Trust’s Director of Education and STEM, and Deputy Director of the Brunel Institute. She manages the Trust’s learning and communities team that delivers programmes for schools and communities across Bristol, including the Future Brunels programme that engages secondary school students with science and engineering. Rachel has worked for the Trust for 12 years, previously as Brunel Institute Education Officer and Education Manager. Prior to that Rachel worked at the Australian National University as a Royal Society International Fellow and Australian Research Council Linkage International Fellow, exploring the synthesis of organometallic complexes with nonlinear optical properties.
  • Michael Gorely – Local Heritage Education Manager, Historic England. Michael has managed the Heritage Schools Programme for Historic England in the south west of England for the last 10 years. His role is all about engaging schools with their local heritage. Find out more about his work on Michael's Twitter page
  • Laura Hilton – Visitor Experience Manager, Clifton Suspension Bridge. Laura has previously worked as a Heritage Education Officer for a new heritage attraction, a strategic consultant for Staffordshire Museums, and ran the Local Studies unit for a county borough council. She is currently doing a Doctor of Education in Educational Psychology at UWE and also has a Level 4 TESOL. 
  • Janine Marriott – Public Engagement Manager, Arnos Vale Cemetery Trust. Janine previously worked as Education Officer at Bath Postal Museum, before moving to an Education Officer role at Arnos Vale which she held for over 13 years. She has been in charge of public engagement for the Trust for over seven years. Janine is currently doing a Doctor of Heritage at the University of Hertfordshire.

A careers event for School of Education students and graduates, organised collaboratively between SoE, the school’s Faculty Employability consultant and the Student Education Society EdSoc. The event on 9th November event has a heritage education theme.
