Climate Emergency Day of Action

26 February 2021, 12.00 PM - 26 February 2021, 3.00 PM

Online

On Friday 26 February, the School of Education is holding a series of events as part of the Climate Emergency Day of Action.

Please do sign up and come along to these events - in particular the first and the last events are geared towards students, and the first one is run by students for students! It looks to be an exciting programme so please do participate to help contribute to thinking about how we can address the climate emergency.

Thinking about Climate Change: An Informal Lunchtime Chat for Students

The students on the Climate Change & Education module invite you to a relaxed discussion about our anxieties and hopes around climate change. Discussion will focus on the possibilities of climate change actions in Covid-times (big and small) and our hopes for alternative futures of adaptation and regeneration.

So you want to teach [out] about climate change?

  • Date: Friday 26 February 2021
  • Time: 13:00-13:30
  • Register here

Drawing on two decades of teacher education experience and the recent student activism on climate, I will look to provoke a debate about what is holding us back in making the secondary geography curriculum experience fit for purpose.  What teachers can (and cannot) do now, and what changes need to happen to enable a climate change education which responds to the questions being asked.

Teachout – Teacher’s views on Climate Change Education (CCE) in England

  • Date: Friday 26 February 2021
  • Time: 13:30-14:30
  • Register here

What do teacher’s in England really think about teaching Climate Change? Recent research findings from a large scale survey of teacher’s attitudes, perspectives and beliefs will be presented.

There will be opportunities to engage with the research findings through polling, followed by an opportunity to discuss the wider implications of the research in terms of the interface between education and civil disobedience.

Student Voice and the School of Education Climate Action Plans

The School of Education is developing a “Climate Action Plan”. We would like to hear student views about what you think is important, what you think the School of Education should be doing and how you would like to get involved.
