Digital Learning Environment development - Blackboard templates
We created and deployed new school-specific Blackboard course templates for use in 2020-21. The templates were developed in consultation with the schools, tailored to their differing needs. Most schools across the University adopted the templates. Student feedback (through the Digital Experience Survey, for example) has praised the improved course structure (while also criticising inconsistently-structured Blackboard courses as hampering their studies).
The three overarching ideas for templates
Consistent approaches to better support our students and improve their experience of online provision, along with more efficient and resilient course management; for example, by use of “standard” structures, instructions, and workflows where available.
Coherent design to support consistency, create online learning communities, and develop our students’ digital capabilities and confidence.
A standardised foundation to build on, allowing for innovation in teaching and the use of technology, as well as specific disciplinary educational requirements.
